Ansaphalaka Marma – Dr. Sunil Joshi

Ansaphalaka Marma: The Ancient Ayurvedic Therapy for Frozen Shoulder and Arm Numbness

Shoulder stiffness and chronic upper back pain have become incredibly widespread due to poor posture, long working hours, and sedentary lifestyles. Conditions like a frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), muscle wasting, and sudden tingling or numbness running down the arms can make everyday movements painful and frustrating.

According to renowned Ayurvedic expert Dr. Sunil Joshi, Marma science offers a highly effective, completely non-invasive way to restore mobility. By stimulating a vital energy center on the back called the Ansaphalaka  Marma, you can unlock stiff joints and restore strength to your upper extremities.

What is Ansaphalaka Marma?

In Ayurveda, Marma points are powerful junction points where vital life force energy (Prana) flows through the physical body.

Ansaphalaka  Marma is a highly critical point located on the upper back (posterior thorax). Anatomically, it is situated at the level of the D3 (Third Thoracic) vertebra, closely aligning with the scapula (shoulder blade) region.

When this energy center becomes blocked, it can trigger weakness, stiffness, and structural changes. However, consciously activating the Ansaphalaka  Marma provides incredible therapeutic relief for:

  • Frozen Shoulder: Drastically speeds up recovery and breaks down severe joint stiffness.
  • Muscular Atrophy & Deformities: Reverses muscle wasting and strengthens the structural tissues around the shoulder joint.
  • Numbness & Tingling: Relieves nerve compression, eliminating desensitization or “pins and needles” sensations in the arms and hands.

Regularly stimulating this point allows you to extend the range of motion of your shoulder joint and make your everyday arm movements significantly more powerful.

How to Locate and Stimulate Ansaphalaka  Marma

In his instructional clinical video, Dr. Sunil Joshi shares a simple self-measurement technique to accurately locate and stimulate this point.

Step 1: Understand the Geometry (The 8-Finger Rule)

The Ansaphalaka  Marma is located exactly eight finger-widths (eight angulas) away from the Amsa Marma (the point at the base of the neck where your middle finger naturally rests when you cross your hand over your opposite shoulder).

Step 2: Locate the Point

To find it easily on your back, cross your arm behind your back or over your shoulder. The exact spot where your middle finger naturally lands on your upper back—aligned with the D3 spinal level on either side of the spine—is the Ansaphalaka  Marma.

Step 3: Apply the Pressure Technique

  1. The Finger Placement: Use your middle finger to firmly press into the point.
  2. The Rhythmic Pulse: Apply a steady, pulsing pressure. Press and hold the point for exactly 8 seconds, then release.
  3. Repetition: Repeat this rhythmic pulse 15 to 18 times in a continuous sequence.

Reclaim Your Shoulder Mobility Today

Activating the Ansaphalaka  Marma is a completely safe, time-tested tool that can easily be integrated into your daily self-care routine. Whether you are dealing with early signs of an stiff shoulder or trying to recover full function from a chronic frozen shoulder, a few minutes spent stimulating this point daily can help you live a pain-free, active life.
