Facial paralysis
Due to sudden excessive blood loss in a pregnant woman, old person and debilitated person, loud speaking, chewing of hard food material, excessive weight lifting, sleeping on uneven surface, vitiated vata situated in the region of the head, nose, lips chin, forehead and corners of eye affects the face and causes ardita (facial paralysis).
In this disease half the side of the face becomes uneven, the neck becomes one-sided, the head moves frequently and there is difficulty in speech, abnormal appearance of eye, and neck, chin and teeth get twisted on the same side. Premonitory symptoms are horripilate, trembling, dirty eyes, upward movement of gas, numbness in skin, pricking pain, stiffness of neck and jaws. The disease is known as ‘ardita’.
In facial paralysis dhamani, matrika marma of neck, krikatika marma at the junction of head and neck, vidhura marma behind the ear, apanga, avarta, utkshepa, samkha, sthapani, simantas and abhipati should be treated with mind rubbing, pressure, oil massage, paste application and fomentation. Lnitially the marma of contra lateral part should be treated; afterwards the same process should be abopted in the affected side.
Ardita is not curable in emaciated persons, having fixed eyes and constanly muffled voice, trembling and for duration of more than three years.
